You feel tired all the time. You wake up in the morning and can hardly get started. It’s got to the point where you come home exhausted, wake up exhausted and even the simplest, most enjoyable tasks have become just too difficult.
Of course you do your best to take care of yourself – though we could all make improvements in that regard. But nothing seems to help – nothing seems to wipe out this bone-crushing fatigue.

Another day at the office brings you home to a long night of fighting shoulder, lower back and head aches. You’ve been sitting in front of your computer all day long. Now you feel that your body is paying the price for your hard work. At first you were okay – you didn’t feel the effects of sitting in front of the computer quite so acutely. But now, this is getting to you.

You got the diagnosis: Cancer. There’s a lot that you may have to deal with: Chemotherapy, radiation, being nauseated, losing your hair. Most of the therapy involved with cancer treatments will feel invasive. Most won’t be pleasant. And you don’t know the long term impact they will have on your body. You’d like to feel good in your body again, feel like you are yourself.

Increasingly, people are looking for more natural approaches to help relieve painful conditions instead of relying on pain medications.
Acupuncture has no side effects and can be helpful for treating all types of pain, regardless of what is causing the pain or where it is located. Some studies show that the pain relief acupuncture provides can last for months.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain before and after acupuncture treatment for pain shows dramatic decreases in brain activity -- up to 70 percent. This decrease in brain activity in certain areas of the brain is thought to be the reason for the reduction of pain caused by the acupuncture treatments.
In addition to reducing pain, acupuncture also hastens the healing process by increasing circulation and attracting white blood cells to an injured area.
The basis of acupuncture is expressed in this famous Chinese saying: "Bu tong ze tong, tong ze bu tong" which means "free flow: no pain, no free flow: pain." In other words, any kind of pain or illness represents an obstruction in the normal flow of blood and the nutrients carried by blood. Simply put, acupuncture restores the free flow of blood, through which your body heals.
My clients regularly go home with Chinese herbal formulas to combat colds and flus . Many report that their colds (and what may have been very early stage flus) never took hold. Others who did get sick still recovered quickly compared to their office mates, friends or family members.
Now new research from Japan and China has confirmed that certain medicinal herbs and their constituents have the ability to directly inhibit influenza as well as stimulate the body's own immune system in order to counteract the flu virus.
The most recent finding is from China's Northwest A&F University. Here researchers determined that two medicinal herbs known for clinical success in influenza treatment--and at least 50 phytochemicals contained in them--can inhibit the growth of the flu virus.
The researchers tested two different herbs that are known in Chinese Medicine to inhibit viruses: Fructus forsythiae (also called Forsythia or Lian Qiao) and Lonicera japonica (also called Suikazura, Jinyinhua and Japanese Honeysuckle). The researchers exposed these herbs and their constituents to influenza viruses and human cells within a laboratory setting.
The researchers found that these two herbs, and 50 of their constituents – phytochemicals that were isolated from them – significantly inhibited the replication of the viruses.
Over the 14 years practicing acupuncture in D.C., I’ve experienced how powerful this natural medicine is. I’ve seen elbow pain disappear, stress drop way down, severe headaches resolve, ovarian cysts dissolve, PMS become a thing of the past, babies conceived, backs become strong. Some clients, because they feel so much better, even dramatically change their lives to fulfill their heart’s deepest longing.
